Windmills, WalMarts and The Burger From Hell

We travelled 1672 miles in 2 1/2 days to arrive in Santa Fe mid-day Saturday, September 24...1 day ahead of schedule! First, we want to give a big shout out to WalMart SuperCenters in West Memphis and Amarillo. Not only are WalMarts hospitable to motor coaches overnighting in the parking lot (some even have whole designated areas for us), but they keep the lots well-lit, and have a security guard driving around 24/7. Ironically, the only WalMart that didn't welcome us was last year in Little Rock ... near the WalMart headquarters!

As we zipped through North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and then New Mexico, we saws a few interesting sights:

Lots and lots of flat land and big skies...
 Windmill farms ...

And bugs ...

...which Benson cleaned off of the windshield every morning before started out.
Who would have known one of the best restaurants in Amarillo was just around the corner from the WalMart where we parked? A lucky find using Google Places. The restaurant -- Coyote Bluff Cafe - was featured on the travel channel as one of the best places to eat in Amarillo.

The burger for which they are most famous is the Burger from Hell ... full of all kinds of hot peppers. Benson loved it. I ordered chicken.
So here we are, in New Mexico ...

At the Santa Fe Skies RV Park.

Santa Fe, here we come!

On the Road Again

After an extended stay in the coach hospital for repairs due to a break-in, Shamu is up and ready for a road trip. We obliged her by leaving Mooresville this morning, headed for Santa Fe by Sunday mid-day.  Shamu must have been working out with Patty, because she climbed the steep hill on I-40 without even breaking into a sweat. Benson is likewise fit (despite battling a virus), and has just zipped past Nashville.

I've been at work of course. Thanks to our new Verizon MiFi, stayed connected the whole day.

We get out once in a while to stretch our legs with the truckers.

Our plan now is to overnight at the WalMart Super Center in West Memphis, and take a side trip back into Memphis for a BBQ dinner at The Rendevous. Morty is doing OK, but not crazy about bumpy roads. Here we go ...!
